PANJIM: Blame it on Global warming or just the full Moon, beach tourism appears to be heading for a serious challenge this year. Although the permissions to erect shacks were for the first time given well in advance, the Tourism season has been delayed due to the uncharacteristic rains.
To add to the problems on Thursday, the shacks in South Goa were flooded due to rising water levels, particularly in Majorda. Shack owners opine that the rise in the sea level is due to the full moon, which occurs every year.
The sea water flooded the shacks making it difficult for tourists to visit the shacks.
Shack Operator Camilo Cardozo said, “This is due to the full moon, it has happened many times before. Im operating the shack for more than 32 years. This has happened before. Some people panic and call the police, that people are taking away sand. This is not the case. We have not suffered any loss.”
