PONDA: The heritage structure of the historic Safa Masjid tank structure at Shapur-Bandora, Ponda have developed cracks due to vibrations of heavy vehicles moving over the speed breakers on the national highway located opposite. It is posing a risk to the structure itself, claimed the Mulla Murtuza, president of Safa Masjid care taking committee. He said this is mainly due to vibrations of heavy vehicles passing on the highway.

Murtuza has welcomed the step taken by Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) for taking up repair works before any untoward incident because of the structure holding the water had received cracks. He said the local committee is constantly in touch with ASI and other Government authorities over issue of maintenance. He said already the local committee had informed to NH Authority regarding cracks to the tank structure due to vibrations.

"Two years ago, the lake structure of Safa Majid had collapsed during the rainy season and was repaired and restored thereafter," Murtuza said, adding that no proper access had been left to proceed towards Masjid during the widening of the national highway.
