Illegal mud road constructed by destroying sand dunes in Sernabatim, inspected

COLVA: The Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority and the Goa Biodiversity Board, inspected the illegal mud road constructed by destroying fields and sand dunes in Sernabatim, on Friday, on the orders of the National Green Tribunal. The illegal road leads to illegal hotels at Sernbatim Beach.

The NGT had in 2017 ordered for restoration of the fields, but since this was not done, the petitioner Judith Almeida filed an execution petition in 2018. Infact, the Goa State Biodiversity Board has recommended that this area be made into a Sand dune park since there are several 15 to 20 metre sand dunes in this area, which are sought to be destroyed.

From just 6 respondent, the GCZMA has now increased the number of respondent to 35. The Secretary GCZMA will have to answer for this petitioner, Judith Almeida said.
