PONDA: For the past several years, Kavlem, the home to the famous Shantadurga Temple, has been facing severe traffic jams and parking issues, which not only affect tourists, but also locals, especially during festivals, marriage ceremonies, zatras and other events.

This time devotees and tourists have been experiencing parking problems during Navratri, which often lead to traffic congestion.

Many tourists visiting the nearby temples of Ramnathi, Nagueshi and Mahalaxmi add to the traffic load on Kavlem road. Hence, special parking space is the need of the hour as parking by the roadside is not at all possible at Kavlem.

The locals have suggested that the dilapidated and abandoned tourist complex be demolished to free up 4,000 square metres of space which could be used to create the much-needed parking zone.

Power Minister Sudin Dhavalikar said that efforts are on to provide parking space at Kavlem by taking farmers, tenants, landlords and stakeholders to acquire fallow land for parking at Kavlem. Similarly efforts are on to resolve the parking problems in Kavlem and Ramnathi.
