PANJIM: Union Minister Shripad Naik on Wednesday said that the commissioning of Mopa International Airport and AYUSH Hospital and Ayurvedic Medical College in Pernem Taluka were delayed due to litigations and the Covid-19 pandemic.

Naik stated this while speaking to media persons informally after exercising his franchise in the panchayat elections at Sao Pedro.

He said that the complete work of Mopa Greenfield Airport was delayed due to litigations in the High Court and also in the Supreme Court.

He said that now 98 per cent of work has been completed and that the airport will be commissioned within the next two months.

Further, Naik said that the work of the prestigious AYUSH Hospital and Ayurvedic Medical College at Dhargalim was hindered for two years due to the Covid-19 pandemic. But now, the work is nearing completion, he said adding that both the projects will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi within the next two months.

The Minister said that the new Mopa Airport was required due to rising passenger traffic.

It may be recalled that GMR Goa International Airport Limited, which is constructing the new Mopa Airport had last month successfully completed calibration of the Instrument Landing System for the newly built Runway 28 of the upcoming Mopa Airport.
