PANJIM: With lax policing of Goa’s coast and the Coastal Police and Fisheries having no boats, the Malpe trawlers continue to plunder Goa’s fish resources. Once again the coastal police along with traditional fishermen busted the illegal bull trawling at Nerul coast on Tuesday, within 15 meters from the shore. Upon reaching the fishing site, the Malpe fishermen in turn attacked the coastal police.
The police seized two Malpe boats which had netted a bumper catch of various types of fishes - mackerels, squids, crabs, anchovies, etc. Watch the daring video of local fishermen along with coastal police with a gun, nabbing the huge Malpe trawlers.
Whether it is north Goa or south Goa, it is the local fishermen who lend their speed boats to the coastal police to nab Malpe trawlers fishing in Goan waters. For years now, neither the Fisheries Department nor the 9 Coastal Police station have speed boats to nab the marauding fishing trawlers from Karnataka
