MARGAO: The Margao Municipal Council (MMC) has finally revoked the trade licence issued to commercial activity in one of the unsafe buildings in Margao.

It is pertinent to note that a group of citizens from Margao had raised a serious concern over the issuing of trade licence to commercial activity in one of the unsafe buildings in Margao, followed by petition before the South Goa District Collector.

Gaurish Shankhwalkar, Chief Officer, MMC issued an order revoking the trade licence on July 24. In the past, the Collector's office issued an order to revoke the given trade licence which the civic body had failed to comply with for the last few months.

"In view of the order issued by the office of Collector, we hereby revoke and cancel the trade licence issued with immediate effect," stated the CO.

Reacting to the issue, Savio Coutinho, former Chairperson said that it appears that this Council moves into action mode only after public and media pressure develops.

"The very fact that the Council considered the issue of trade license to the premises the Council itself declared unsafe, was a fraud and mischief," he stated. He further said that they have to now see when the showroom actually shuts down.
