PANJIM: The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Thursday lifted the model code of conduct (MCC) which was in force since the announcement of the Lok Sabha elections.
In a communication to the Union Cabinet Secretary and State chief secretaries, the Election Commission said as results of Lok Sabha elections and Assembly polls in Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim, Odisha and Andhra Pradesh, along with some Assembly by-polls have been declared, model code of conduct has ceased to be in operation with immediate effect.
A direction has been issued to States to withdraw the model code of conduct which had come into force from March 16, 2024.
Two Lok Sabha constituencies in Goa had gone for polls on May 7, 2024, the third phase of the elections.
