VASCO: The officials of GSIDC, Forests, PWD and WRD on Wednesday inspected landslide spot and revitalisation of Baina garden project.
The officials of Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC) along with Vasco MLA Krishna ‘Daji’ Salkar and others inspected the Baina garden, which had been in a dilapidated condition for the last 30 years and was misused by miscreants even as people have been using it for immersion of Ganesh idol during Chaturthi.
The garden will now be redeveloped at a cost of Rs five crore sanctioned by the government. The project will include a play area for children with a synthetic walking track, permanent shops around the garden’s periphery, and a hall for small functions
The work order will be issued within next two months. Vasco MLA Daji Salkar, who was also present, emphasised the importance of synchronising the Vittal Rakhumai Temple, situated nearby with the new garden project.
Ward councillor Deepak Naik said that the project will benefit all by providing permanent shops, a stage for activities, an open gymnasium, a walking track, and a small futsal ground.
In another inspections, officials from the PWD, Water Resources Department (WRD) and the Deputy Collector’s team, including Mormugao MLA Sankalp Amonkar and Mormugao Mamlatdar Inspected the landslide spot at Jetty area.
The landslide had caused significant damage as a portion of the road had caved in and the PWD water supply pipeline was also damaged. Due to this, the residents of jetty were without water supply for the last two days. However, the PWD (water supply section) restored the water supply.
As a preventive measure, it was proposed to construct a retaining wall to avoid recurrence of landslides. Amonkar said that a proposal has been submitted to the government to develop the ancient natural spring and restore it to its original glory to promote the area as a tourist destination.
