PANJIM: Eminent Goan artist of international repute Padma Bhushan Laxman Pai (95) passed away at his residence at Dona Paula late evening on Sunday.
Pai, who was conferred with Padma Bhushan in June 2018, was born in Margao. He is known for interpreting music in visual forms, creating one of his favourite painting series - Musical Moods- inspired by Indian classical rags.
Leader of Opposition, Digambar Kamat took on social media to announce the passing away of Pai.
"Deeply saddened by the passing away of eminent Goan artist of International repute Padma Bhushan Laxman Pai. His passing away will create a big void in the field of art," Kamat tweeted.
Kamat said that Pai remained active till his last breath with his mastered art of painting.
The prestigious Vidhyadhiraj Puraskar was conferred to Pai by Shree Gokarn Partagali Math- Canacona last year. But, due to Covid Pandemic the same could not be presented to him.
Pai is the recipient of the Padma Shri, Gomant Vibhushan and several other awards.
The renowned artist had last week even taken COVID-19 vaccination during the ongoing drive being held for senior citizens.
