PANJIM: In a swift and commendable interstate operation, Panjim Police nabbed a security guard who stole electronic items from Herald TV office at St Tome, Panjim and fled the State.

The security guard, Ranjan Taid, a native of Assam, who was relieved of his services on March 31, entered the office of Herald TV on the intervening night of April 6 and 7, 2022 and stole two cameras, one laptop, camera batteries, chargers and LED lights all worth Rs 2 lakh. All the goods have been recovered from the accused.

Accused Ranjan Taid who was employed as a security guard for Herald TV was sacked after he was found misusing the computers and internet in the office and was hence told to keep guard outside the door. On the intervening night of April 6 and 7 he entered through the window and stole the electronic equipment.

Taid, to his misfortune, had told his colleagues that he was leaving for Kolkata on the Amravati Express on April 7, 2022. When he switched off his mobile he became the main suspect in the theft case.

When intimated, Panjim Police immediately swung into action and tracked the mobile of a friend who was travelling with him in the same train. They intimated the Andhra Pradesh counterparts who in turn intimated the railway police, who nabbed him in boggie number 9 of the Amravati Express with all the electronic items intact, within 12 hours of commission of the theft. He was arrested and kept at Vijaywada Police Station.

Panjim Police then sent a team to Vijaywada and brought Taid to Goa. The accused has been remanded to five days police custody and further investigations are on.
