MARGAO: A Maina-Curtorim police team has been dispatched to Karnataka in connection with the investigation of the murder of Kanhaiya Kumar Mondal, a 32-year-old labourer, whose body was discovered in Loutolim last month.

Initially believed to be a hit-and-run case, multiple stab injuries on the victim’s body led police to re-classify it as a murder. The police have registered a case under Section 302 of the IPC for murder, as well as Sections 279 and 304A for rash and negligent driving.

According to sources, police visited the area near Loutolim on Sunday and reviewed CCTV footage to verify certain facts. The driver of a truck, who was summoned from Belgaum, is currently being interrogated at the Maina-Curtorim police station.

Kanhaiya was originally from Bihar and had been residing in Ponda, Warkhande.
