PANJIM: In a startling revelation, Kamakshi Uddapnov’s former lover Prakash Chunchwad confessed to the Porvorim Police that he was allegedly inspired to brutally kill the young woman after watching the 2018 Tamil movie, ‘RX-100’. He claimed that when Kamakshi ended her relationship with him and said she never wanted to be a part of his life, it sparked a maniacal obsession within him which resulted in him deciding that if she was not his, he would neither let her marry anyone else nor would he let her live in peace.
“I thought I would silence her forever, and inspired by the movie ‘RX-100’, I killed Kamakshi,” Prakash told the police. Cops also revealed that there were regular quarrels between the couple and that he used to frequently doubt her credibility, which is what compelled her to end her relationship with him.
On the fateful day of August 30, Prakash visited her flat at Porvorim and made desperate attempts to meet her. She, however, kept him at bay. When he kept promising her that he would settle the issue “once and for all”, she opened the door. But to Kamakshi’s horror, Prakash began stabbing her with a knife, inflicting 34 wounds that killed her on the spot.
Incidentally, just hours before her untimely demise, Kamakshi had filed an assault case against Prakash at the Mapusa Police Station. In response, the police obtained a written commitment from Prakash in which he assured that he would not interfere with Kamakshi any further. The police even offered to escort her home safely, but she chose to leave with a female friend.
A post-mortem examination conducted at the Goa Medical College and Hospital at Bambolim confirmed the number of stab wounds that were inflicted on her head, chest and palms. Of these, the deepest wounds - seven in all - were found all around Kamakshi’s neck. Porvorim PI Anant Gaonkar said she was murdered at around 9.30 am, following which Prakash wrapped her body in plastic, dumped it in his car with tinted glasses, and drove to his residence. He then took another vehicle and flung her mobile phone a few metres away from the road in Anjuna just to mislead the police.
Later, Prakash called his friend, Nirupadi Kadakal, and asked him to accompany him on a drive to Amboli Ghat. En route, he narrated the whole sordid saga to Nirupadi. The duo managed to hoodwink the men in uniform by brazenly crossing three checkposts at Naibagh, Mopa and Patradevi with Kamakshi’s body in the boot. They then wrapped the body in a blanket and dumped it at the ghat.
Since Kamakshi was missing, the family lodged a police complaint. Prakash was summoned by the police and questioned, but after initially denying everything, he admitted to have committed the heinous crime.
Prakash was subsequently taken to Amboli Ghat along with a forensic team and Kamakshi’s body was recovered in a decomposed state.
