MARGAO: The High Court of Goa has issued a stern order in response to the ongoing pollution caused by sewage contamination in Salpem Lake, mandating a series of actions aimed at addressing environmental concerns and improving waste management systems in Margao. The court has instructed the Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) to take action against 51 commercial establishments that are either operating without the necessary consent or have failed to apply for it. These establishments are to be sealed within four weeks from the date of the order.
The order stems from a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by Prof Antonio Alvares of Navelim, which highlighted the pollution and sewage-related issues in the region.
