PANJIM: Street Providence is ready to take in the homeless woman Mangal Naik, who has spent the last 15 years at the Canacona Primary Health Centre (PHC). She landed at the PHC after she was brutally assaulted by a family member, that led to the loss of both her legs, Mangal was left with nowhere to go.
Street Providence however, insists that there are 60 or 70 more patients like her who need shelters, some of whom have been recommended by politicians. But for this he has to open more shelter homes which the Department of Women and Child Development is not ready to support. The paltry sum of Rs 8000 per person per month has to be increased to Rs 25000 a month, even as Provedoria get Rs 38,000 a month per person they look after.
