Traffic diversion comes into effect for Porvorim Highway Corridor work

Collector notifies diversion of two routes; heavy trucks to operate only after 10 pm; nearly 100 cops deployed from Pernem to Porvorim to monitor, manage traffic

PANJIM: The Goa Traffic Police started traffic diversion at Porvorim in view of construction of six- lane national highway 66 elevated corridor following a notification issued by the North Goa Collector. 

North Goa Collector Sneha Gitte, IAS, has notified diversion of vehicular traffic at two locations i.e. Delfino Super Market to Hotel Majestic (Sector- 1) and Shreyash Nursery to Sangolda Junction (Sector-2) during the construction of elevated corridor project with immediate effect till the completion of the project.

In sector-1 i.e. from Delfino Super Market to Hotel Majestic, the vehicular traffic coming from O’Coqueiro side and proceeding towards Panaji shall take diversion on Service road near Ramdev Baba Bus Stop. This traffic shall merge on the Highway at Azad Bhavan junction to proceed via Atal Setu and near Water Resource Department Office. The stretch of Service Road from Teacher’s Training College to Hero Honda junction shall be a one-way for traffic plying from O’Coqueiro junction to Panjim. The vehicular traffic plying on Panjim-Mapusa route shall ply as usual. The vehicular traffic coming from Panaji side and proceeding on Porvorim internal roads shall compulsorily take a right turn at Hero Honda Junction towards Sanjay School and Swami Vivekanand Road.

In sector-2 i.e. from Shreyash Nursery to Sangolda junction at Sangolda-Socorro junction, the vehicular traffic plying from Porvorim towards Mapusa and vice versa shall take diversion on the Service roads at near Sangolda–Socorro junction. 

Heavy goods vehicles like trailers, containers etc coming from Banda side and proceeding towards Pernem, Bardez and Tiswadi talukas shall stop at Patradevi, Sakral, Torsem, Tamoxen, Ugvem and near Redkar Hospital from 6 am to 10 pm and they shall ply after 10 pm to 6 am. Some heavy goods vehicles shall be diverted near GhotnichoVhal to proceed via IDC Karaswada, Tivim side-Assonora-Bicholim-Sanquelim-Amona to their respective destinations. Heavy goods vehicles coming from Banda side and proceeding towards the talukas of Bicholim,Sattari, Tiswadi and South Goa District shall take diversion at Banda to proceed via Dodamarg-Bicholim throughout the day and night. 

DySP (Traffic) Sidhant Shirodkar said that traffic diversion from Shreyash Nursery to Sangolda junction came into force soon after issuing of the notification on Thursday, while diversion of traffic from Delfino Super Market to Hotel Majestic, was started from Friday.

Shirodkar said that only emergency vehicles and those carrying perishable goods will not be halted and allowed to take diversion. Nearly 100 traffic policemen have been deployed from Pernem to Porvorim to monitor and manage traffic, he informed.
