RAIA: United Boys of Ambaulim downed Santa Cruz Society of Poitomado via tie-breaker 6-4 to secure a spot in the semi-finals of 18th All Goa Guirdolim Panchayat Cup 2024 organised by Guirdolim Club at Chandor Church sports complex ground.
In the first half, there was no score. Crossing over, Vinod Velip gave the lead for Santa Cruz Society of Poitomado in the 37th minute.
In the 53rd minute, Santa Cruz Society of Poitomado’s Viraj fouled Joel and the referee awarded a free-kick to United Boys of Ambaulim, which was converted to Savlon. Buoyed by the equaliser, United Boys of Ambaulim went for the kill and a corner kick taken in the last minute of the match saw Jesvan’s header hit the upright and bounce back into play.
At the end of regulation time, both the teams settled for a 1-1 draw.
UBAmbaulim proved to be the better shooters converting all their five penalty kicks, while Santa Cruz Society of Poitomado could convert only three. The match thus ended 6-4 in favour of United Boys of Ambaulim. Savlon Fernandes of United Boys of Ambaulim was awarded the player-of-the-match by Anthony Fernandes, veteran athlete and former footballer.
