PANJIM: Vedanta Ltd has claimed that it is utilising traditional road, which has been in use since many decades even prior to the mining ban and is the only available route

for transporting iron ore, even as environmentalists have denied it.

Reacting to the opposition by the Comunidade of Pilgao and tenants to the transportation of e-auctioned iron ore through their property by damaging agricultural land, the company reiterated that its activities had caused no damage to property.

It claimed to have all necessary checks had been put in place so that there was no inconvenience to the local community.

“The company ensures strict compliance with all provisions and safeguards mandated by the Environmental Clearance (EC) and Consent to Operate (CTO), as well as additional compliances prescribed by the Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) and Directorate of Mines and Geology (DMG),” states a press release.

However, environmentalists have strongly denied the claims of Vedanta Ltd and underlined that the land in question did not belong to Vedanta, a ‘new company’.
