PANJIM: The Corporation of City of Panaji (CCP) has decided to upgrade pedestrian walkways from Old Patto bridge to the Panjim Church square and make it user friendly and to paint the facades of all houses situated along this heritage route as a pilot project under the Smart Cities Mission.
According to information available, the Imagine Panaji Smart City Development Limited (IPSCDL) in its board meeting approved the CCP’s proposal to upgrade the pedestrian walkways and to repair and paint the facade of the houses situated along the route from Old Patto bridge to the Church square.
The walkways will be built on either side of the road after constructing new drains while, a pre-fabricated dry duct will be provided to run services and cross dry ducts will be built for crossing the services along the walkways. Since this road passes through a heritage zone and as a pilot project, it has been decided to repair the houses situated along the above route and paint its facade so as to give an even facelift and serene look to the entire area.
The estimated cost of the project prepared and submitted by the PWD is over Rs 2.84 crore.
The IPSCDL also granted in-principle approval to various new works to be undertaken through the Smart Cities Mission. These works are smart parking at Miramar; upgradation of urban health centre (UHC) and primary health centre (PHC) at Ribandar as a smart healthcare project; making of road from Old Patto bridge to Four Pillars junction and road from Vivanta Junction to Adarsh colony junction as smart roads; rejuvenation of St Inez creek; extension of Mandovi river promenade on either sides to create a continuous pedestrian spine from Miramar beach to ESG building; redesigning and upgradation of traffic circle at KTC bus stand, Divja circle and Merces junction, pedestrian bridge linking central library and Mala creek and solar on-grid roofing installation for government buildings and institution in Panjim.
Besides this, the IPSCDL meeting also approved proposals for construction of a market, overhead water tank, development of a football ground, sewerage network, rejuvenation of crematorium, construction of a jetty in front of Old GMC building and improvement of existing road geometry from Ribandar-Merces junction to Ribandar-Patto, all at Ribandar and replacement and installation of street lights in Panjim constituency.
