PANJIM: In the wake of rising crimes in Goa, the government has launched an aggressive tenant verification drive. The drive has been extended by 5 days. This is based on the premise that many of the crimes are committed by migrants. In this edition of Street Voices, we asked people whether tenant verification will help reduce crimes in Goa. Here are the responses……
Crimes happen because there is no tenant verification. Owners have the responsibility to do tenant verification. Police do not do proper patrolling and just take rounds aimlessly. If anyone is moving in a suspicious manner, police should have the courage to question him. You have the power, use it for a good purpose, don’t misuse your powers. I have seen in San Jose de Areal how police misuse, their powers.Freddy Travasso, Social Activist
Tenant verification will be good for investigation purposes. But Goa being a tourist state, all that is bad is freely available. Alcohol, drugs, prostitution like Thailand, massage, casinos…everything is available. But in this, those criminal minded people who enter Goa, their motive is just one –to commit crime – may it be criminal threats, murders, extortion, dacoity, chain snatching, drugs…are these people going to give you their personal details? No. They are fly by night operators, how will their curtail them?
