PANJIM: In a shocking incident, a woman jumped from Mandovi Bridge on Tuesday morning.
The tragedy occurred when the victim identified as Maria Braganza (56) of Duler, Mapusa while returning home on a two-wheeler, stopped on the bridge and in a fraction of seconds jumped off the Mandovi Bridge, where there was movement of traffic.
The eye witnesses immediately informed the police, who rushed to the site and launched search operations. Some of the eye witnesses told police that the woman after jumping cried for help while she was drowning and that she was drifted away towards the off-shore casinos vessels.
Later, the police recovered the body and sent it to the Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC), Bambolim for post-mortem examination. The body was later handed over to the relatives.
According to information available, the woman was under depression. On Tuesday morning she left her home to go to the hospital for treatment. But after she was told to take a prior appointment, she was returning home. On reaching the bridge, she stopped her two-wheeler and before the passersby could realise what was happening, she jumped off the bridge.
