Would you believe Mapusa celebrates a festival bigger than Ganesh Chaturthi?

MAPUSA: For two wards of Mapusa, this festival is bigger than Ganesh Chaturthi. Some have been celebrating this festival for over 200 years. This is the festival of bringing Lord Krishna to the house and worshipping him just like Ganesha. Generally these two wards worship Krishna between 17 and 21 days, especially the residents of Mapusa who have been staying there for a very long time. The other wards of Mapusa celebrate sarvajanik worship of Lord Krishna.

Immediately after the festival of Ganesh Chaturthi, the residents of Ansabhat and Kasarvadda, Mapsa celebrate the festival of Lord Krishna. They bring idols of Krishna into their homes. Sculptor Jayant Yeshwant Natekar who makes these idols narrates the story, unique to Mapsa. He say the festival of Lord Krishna is bigger than Chaturthi.
