MARGAO: Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao responded to Chief Minister Pramod Sawant’s remarks regarding the Aatmanirbhar Bharat and Viksit Bharat missions, as reflected in the SKOCH state of governance report on unemployment. Alemao criticised the BJP government, highlighting

perceived shortcomings in its governance.

Alemao condemned the government’s alleged failure to generate employment opportunities, control corruption, and address inflation. He expressed scepticism towards the Chief Minister’s portrayal of the SKOCH report findings, suggesting that the government’s actions did not align with the mission’s objectives. “If rising LPG prices, fuel costs exceeding Rs. 100 per litre, and inflation are indicators of Viksit Bharat, then God save India,” Alemao remarked. He urged the government to disclose the number of jobs created during the BJP’s tenure and address allegations of financial mismanagement. “I dare the Chief Minister to release a ‘White Paper’ on the financial status of Goa and employment scenario in the State. Let everyone know how many jobs were provided in the last eleven years by the BJP Government and how BJP pushed Goa into financial bankruptcy,” challenged the Opposition leader.

Alemao said the Chief Minister has ‘rubbed salt on the wounds’ of unemployed youths and the common man. He accused the BJP of implementing pro-rich and anti-poor policies, citing demonetisation, Covid-19 mismanagement, and GST implementation as factors that have broken the backbone of small and medium industries. “The BJP’s insensitivity stands exposed once again,” Alemao added.

He drew the attention of the Chief Minister to the report published by NITI Ayog headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, which revealed Goa tops the country in unemployment.

“I also want to remind him of CMIE reports which exposed the failure of the BJP government on unemployment,” Yuri said.
