Residents of Ponda have voiced their distress over the prolonged non-functionality of several critical services at the Ponda Sub District Hospital, raising serious questions about the well-being of patients who are already grappling with health issues. The breakdown of the hospital's lift system, coupled with the absence of essential medical facilities, has left citizens, particularly patients, in a state of added hardship.

Locals are expressing frustration as the lift at Ponda Sub District Hospital has reportedly been out of order for an extended period, leaving patients, including disabled individuals, with no choice but to navigate staircases. Viraj Sapre, a concerned Ponda resident, revealed that out of the seven lifts in the facility, only two are operational, with even the lifts designated for disabled patients and doctors remaining non-functional.

The dire situation has led to increased physical strain on patients, exacerbating their existing health challenges. In an alarming revelation, it has been disclosed that the hospital has been without a surgeon for over ten months. Patients are compelled to seek surgical procedures in private hospitals due to the unavailability of surgical services within the Ponda Sub District Hospital.

Furthermore, residents bemoan the absence of a CT scan and other essential facilities, compelling them to seek medical services at private hospitals or travel to Goa Medical College (GMC). Viraj Sapre questioned the government's failure to provide basic medical amenities at the hospital, emphasizing that the lack of a CT scan has persisted for thirteen years.

Sapre highlighted the prevalence of private medical centers outside the Sub District Hospital that offer services the hospital itself lacks. The absence of a self-sufficient medical infrastructure within the hospital is a cause for concern, and residents are demanding urgent intervention to rectify the situation.

In a passionate plea, Sapre questioned the priorities of the government, urging politicians to address the pressing needs of suffering citizens rather than diverting attention to other initiatives. He questioned the government's delay in providing a CT scan for over a decade, emphasizing the urgency of addressing the healthcare deficiencies at the Ponda Sub District Hospital.
