Rains continues its rampage for the second day on Monday; orange alert for Tuesday

PANJIM: Rains continued to batter Goa for the second day on Monday causing massive damage across the state. The meteorological department has issued a Red alert for Monday indicating a constant precipitation. The department has also issue an orange alert for Tuesday and a yellow alert from Wednesday till Friday.

Flooding of villages with rise in water levels, flooding of roads, landslides, trees falling  on houses and road after heavy showers were reported from across the state.

On Monday, the 18th June road, the Dayanand Bandodkar marg, the Patto Plaza and many other places were flooded. Trees falling on houses were reported from many parts of Goa.

There was also seepage of water in the Kala Academy control room adjacent to the Black Box. Three trees fell within the Kala Academy complex.

There was flooding of the road near the ground at St Cruz and St Mary’s colony at Miramar.

In the wake of widespread damage across the State on the second day of continuous and heavy rainfall, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said he took a review with the Collectors of both North and South Goa. He noted there were three unnatural deaths at Kundai when a wall collapsed.

Asked about Smart City flooding, he said this was happening at only one or two places in the City.
