Rajasthan-based Rajendra Singh Bhamboo Infra Private Ltd (RSBIPL) has secured the winning bid for the construction of a six-lane elevated highway corridor in Porvorim, with a project cost of Rs 474.64 crore. This project is aimed to alleviate traffic congestion along the NH-66, previously known as National Highway 17, spanning from Guirim to Porvorim.
The Minister for Public Works Department (PWD), Nilesh Cabral, announced that RSBIPL has been awarded the tender for this six-lane elevated corridor, referred to as a flyover. The project comes with a stringent timeline, mandating its completion within 24 months from the issuance of the work order.
Out of the 16 companies that submitted bids for the tender, RSBIPL emerged as the preferred choice with a competitive bid price of Rs 364.68 crore. The approval of the Union Ministry for Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) is now awaited, as they had initially floated the tender for this critical highway development.
The elevated corridor, spanning a length of 5.2 kilometres, is expected to ease traffic congestion at various points along NH-66, specifically between the 'Teen Building' area in Porvorim and Guirim. The project cost includes the construction of approach roads in addition to the elevated corridor.
This infrastructure endeavour has garnered financial support from the Union Ministry, which has allocated Rs 641.4 crore for the construction of the elevated corridor and its accompanying approach roads. The project's approval was granted during the 2022-23 fiscal year.
The elevated road will extend from the Sangolda junction on one end to the Neo Majestic Hotel at Porvorim on the other.
