MAPUSA: Bardez Veterans played their hearts out to register a 5-4 win over Verna Veterans to clinch the 2nd All Goa Siolim Veterans football trophy organised by Siolim Veterans, at St Anthony’s Church ground, Siolim, on Sunday.
The final was attended by a large Sunday crowd where many yesteryears stars mesmerised the crowd with their brilliant ball possession and one touch play.
With the match ending in a goalless draw, the penalty shoot-out was enforced where Bardez Veterans proved to be the better shooters to win by 5-4 margin against the visitors from Salcete, Verna Veterans. Chief guest Siolim MLA Delilah Lobo along with other invitees Nilesh Vaingankar, Slyvester Fernandes, Francis Fernandes, Permanand Mandrekar presented the winners cash prize of Rs 40,000 plus trophy, while Verna Veterans had to be content with runners-up cash prize of Rs 30,000 plus trophy. Individual prizes were given also given to the best players.
