RAIA: Betalbatim Sporting Club edged past Ambelim Sports Club via a tie-breaker 6-5 to secure the quarter-finals berth of 32nd Curtorim Panchayat Cup organised by Curtorim Gymkhana, at St Alex Church ground, Curtorim, on Monday.
Both teams had a slow start to the game. As the game moved ahead, Ambelim SC’s Nial released a left footed shot which kissed the woodwork and went out of play. The first half ended in a goalless draw.
In the second half, Betalbatim SC played some attacking football with their striker Gladston missing an easy sitter. Later, Betalbatim SC had a chance to surge ahead but Keith’s effort went wide.
In the resultant tie-breaker, Betalbatim SC proved to be the better shooters with Gladson, Oliver, Dickson, Keith, Elroy and Didymus scoring in for the winners, while Ambelim SC scored through Niall, Valroy Lester, Ozen and Rozwin.
Gromiko Fernandes, former general secretary of Curtorim Gymkhana, gave away the man-of-the-match award to Gladston Braganza of Betalbatim SC.
