Calangute Assn stun FC Goa

MAPUSA: Calangute Association SC stunned FC Goa 2-0 in the Goa Professional League match played at Duler Stadium, on Saturday.

Beach side colts struck twice in the second session through Aman Govekar (56th minute) and Deeshank Kunkalikar (72nd minute) to collect three points.

FC Goa came into match with a win, while Calangute Association with a defeat.

Young Gaurs had better of the exchanges and attempts at the rival goal in the first session of play.

Young Gaurs had an early 8th minute casualty with striker Lemmet Tangvah being replaced with Bryson Pereira due to ankle injury.

Early in the match, Calangute Association colts had two chances to take the lead but Aman Govekar placement travelled just past the far goal post, while minutes later a weak strike by Vishesh Nasnodkar was comfortably collected by Young Gaurs goalkeeper Lionel Rymmet. Young Gaurs regrouped themselves and came with series of attacks on the rival citadel.

A teasing free-kick by Lalthangliana saw defender Balkaran Singh a weave late to nod the ball into the net.

In the 35th minute, substitute Bryson Pereira moved from the right flank and crossed the ball at the goal area which was brilliantly cleared for a corner by Calangute Association’s skipper Melvin Lobo before Jovial Dias could connect.

Young Gaurs best chance went abegging in the 42nd minute when Bryson sent a long floater to overlapping Lalthangliana, only to find Calangute Association’s custodian Abujam Singh leave his charge and clear the ball to safety in process colliding with Lalthangliana.

At the strike of 45th minute Mallikjan Kalegar header off Malsawmtluanga free-kick was confidently collected by Calangute Association’s custodian.

Just three minutes into the second half, young Gaurs lost a glorious chance to forge ahead.

Davis Fernandes cross to Lalthangliana whose header was blocked for a corner by Calangute Association’s skipper Melvin Lobo.

After Tufel Hingora weak shot was saved by young Gaurs custodian in the 54th minute, the keeper could do very little to stop Aman Govekar rasping left footer from outside the penalty box hit the back of the nylons, 1-0.

Pepped up by the goal, Calangute Association’s exerted tremendous pressure in doubling their lead, but Edwin Viegas saw his header off Deeshank free-kick, travel wide.

In the 72nd minute, Deeshank Kunkalikar darted inside the penalty box from the left flank and drove a hot-blooded grounder which brushed rival custodian’s hands to find the ball roll into the goal, 2-0.

In the closing stages of the match, Calangute Association’s Pandurang Gauns and Richard Cardoz missed open sitters.
