MAPUSA: Calangute Association SC drubbed Panjim Footballers by 4-0 margin in the Goa Professional League match played at Duler Stadium, here, on Thursday.

Calangute Association SC struck two goals in each session of play. Vishesh Nasnodkar, Pandurang Gauns, Akash Sanadi and Dominic Fernandes scored for the winners.

With Wednesday’s win Calangute Association SC have seven points from six matches; while Panjim Footballers are yet to open their account after five league matches.

Panjim Footballers had two glorious chances to score but Association SC’s custodian Aditya Thakur brought out good saves from inside the 18-yard box both in one to one situation to deny Richie Vaz in the 12th minute and then U-21 Velon Rebello struck in the 29th minute.

At the other end, Calangute Association SC were awarded a penalty in the 20th minute when Panjim Footballers defender Prasil Kankonkar tackled Calangute Association SC’s Richard Cardozo inside the 18-yard box prompting Referee Jan Rodrigues to point to the dreaded spot. Vishesh Nasnodkar stepped forward and scored, 1-0.

Calangute Association SC almost doubled their lead in the 34th minute, but Panjim Footballers goalkeeper Cydon D'Souza brought a brilliant save to block Pandurang Gauns hot-blooded shot for a corner.

However, the keeper could do very little, three minutes later, to stop Pandurang Gauns from slotting the ball into the goal off a teasing cross by Sanjay Vengurlekar, 2-0.

Just two minutes on resumption of play and Calangute Association SC made it 3-0. Akash Sanadi was at the right place at the right time to connect substitute Tufel Hingora low cross at the goal area.

After eighty minutes of midfield tussle, Calangute Association SC pumped in their fourth goal, where a scorching 30-yard left footer from substitute Dominic Fernandes slipped from the gloves of Panjim custodian, 4-0. In the stoppage time two more chances from Association SC’s Vishesh and Nigel Silveria came off the crossbar.
