RAIA: Canacona Sports and Cultural Club got the better of Dunes Sports Club, Mandrem, 4-2 to emerge champions in the Marcus Mascarenhas All Goa 8-a-side inter-village football tournament organised by Sarzora Sports Club at Chinchinim Church ground, recently.
Ronaldo Oliveira scored a brace, while Yamnursab Pinjar and Chaitan Komarpant scored a goal each for Canacona SCC. Pranesh Asvenkar and Sectus Britto netted a goal each for Dunes SC.
The winners were richer by Rs 40,000 plus trophy, while Dunes SC had to be content with Rs 30,000 and a trophy. Arjuna Awardee Brahamanand Shankwalkar was the chief guest and handed over the prizes in the presence of Velim MLA Cruz Silva, Quepem MLA Altone D’Costa, former sports minister Avertano Furtado, Navelim Zilla Panchayat member Edwin Cardozo, Chinchinim Sarpanch Franky Viegas,
Goa Football Association Senior Vice-President Anthony Pango, South Goa District President Congress Committee Savio D’Silva, Our Lady of Assumption Church, Sarzora, Parish Priest Fr Patrick Furtado, Assistant Fr David Fernandes, Gaston Dias, other dignitaries and club officials.
