Canacona SCC lay hands on Santa Cruz Society Cup

RAIA: Canacona Sports and Cultural Club clinched the 1st Santa Cruz Society Soccer Cup defeating Dicarpale Sports Club 3-0 in the final of 1st All Goa Inter-Village Football Tournament organised by Santa Cruz Society of Poitomado, at Poitomado ground, Cuncolim, recently.

Canacona SCC dominated the proceedings and took the lead in the 9th minute with a neat placement through Alric Barreto.

In the second half, Canacona SCC combined well to increase their lead in the 46th minute through Alric, nicely chipping the ball over the onrushing Dicarpale SC goal-keeper, to make it, 2-0.

In the 60th minute, Alric scored again to complete his hat-trick to make the issue safe with a 3-0 goals lead.

On the occasion, upcoming football players of the village, Ronald Gaonkar (Sesa FC) and Saesh Gaonkar (FC Goa) were felicitated.

The best defender prize was awarded to Darmin Carvalho of Dicarpale SC. Earl Fernandes and Alric Barreto of Canacona SCC were awarded the best goalkeeper and best player of the final respectively.

Leader of Opposition and Cuncolim MLA Yuri Alemao was the chief guest and gave away the prizes to the winners and runners-up in the presence of Fr Domnic Savio Rodrigues, dignitaries and club officials.

Canacona SCC took home Rs 40,000, while Dicarpale SC had to be content with Rs 30,000.
