RAIA: Canacona Sports Cultural Club edged past Carmona 4-1 to move into the quarter-finals of Navelim Villagers Union Trophy organised by Navelim Villagers played at Rosary ground, Navelim, on Wednesday.
Canacona SCC netted two goals through Austin Denis and Velvino Fernandes in the 12th and 30th minutes respectively.
As the match progressed in the second half, Canacona SCC scored the third goal through Yamunsab Pinjar in the 50th minute. Rancher D’Souza also recorded his name on the scoresheet in the 55th minute, while Dezwin Dias pulled a goal back for Carmona SCC in the 60th minute.
Jayant Lotlekar, founder member of Navelim Villagers Union presented the man-of-the-match to Yamunsab Pinjar of Canacona Sports Cultural Club. Earlier, Varca Sports Club edged past Dicarapale Sports Club 4-3 via tie-breaker to move into the quarter-finals.
The match ended in a tie with the score reading 1-1. Dicarapale Sports Clubs drew the first blood through Peter Carvalho in the 26th minute while Yunal Fernandes equalised for Varca Sports Club in the 29th minute
In the tie-breaker, Yunal Fernandes, Salon Sadekar and Leander Mendonza scored for Varca SC, while for Dicarapale Sports Club scored through Mohd Sheikh and Royston Colaco.
Shalini D’Costa presented the man-of-the-match award to Yunal Fernandes, Varca Sports Club.
