RAIA: Chandor Club entered the final of 15th Davorlim Cup 2024 with a solitary goal win over Margao Sports Club in the second semi-final organised by Sporting Club Davorlim, at panchayat ground, Davorlim, on Thursday. From the word go, both teams tried to take control of the game by playing with short passes and penetrating each others defence. On the other hand, Charles Miranda’s powerful shot from the 30-yard missed the target by whiskers. At the breather, both teams remained goalless.
As the match progressed in the second session, both teams tried to take lead and in the 40th minute of play Chandor Club’s Alton send a cross, which was well connected by Safik Shaik to deflect the Margao SC keeper Carol and crash into the net.
Margao SC mounted pressure and got a free-kick outside the box which was well fed by Francisco Andrade to Rahul. But the latter’s header went over the crossbar. In the dying minutes, Margao SC’s Velton D’Souza missed the golden chance to equalise by shooting off the target.
Safik Shaik of Chandor Club was awarded man-of-the-match by Seby Costa.
The final will be played on May 19, between Chandor Club and hosts Sporting Club Davorlim.
