RAIA: Cumborda Sports Club got the better of Paldem Sports Club 4-1via tie-breaker to move into the next round of 1st Caniza Peixoto memorial football tournament organised by Agxem Sports Club at St Alex Church ground, Curtorim, on Thursday.
The match started on a promising note but within five minutes heavy rains started to pour. Both teams had equal opportunities to score but due to rain it was not possible.
Diago of Paldem SC unleashed a long ranger shoot which was punched away by Cumborda SC goalkeeper Johnson Bagot. Later on, Myrich of Cumborda SC’s header from the box missed the target by whiskers.
In second session, Cumbordas SC’s Roy, Benson and Veron tried their best to score but in vain, while Benny, Seby and Godwin excelled for Paldem SC but at full-time both the teams remained on goalless draw and made way for penalty shootout to decide the winner.
In the resultant tie-breaker, Cumborda SC scored through Myrick, Sam, Veron and Maxon, while Paldem SC only Favio found the net.
Godwin Mascarenhas of Paldem Sports Club was awarded the man-of-the-match by Conny Peixoto, vice-president of club.
