Goa boys emerge runners-up, girls finish at third place

PANJIM: Goa boys team emerged runners-up in the 32nd Junior National Tennis Ball Cricket Championship held at Sonipat, Haryana, recently.

In the final, Goa lost to Uttar Pradesh by 6 runs.

Batting first, Uttar Pradesh scored 68 for 7 in 8 overs. Tushar Naik 18 for 2, Akshad Naik 22 for 1, Sahil Parodkar 18 for 1.

In reply, Goa scored 62 all out in 7.1 overs. Grandhar Mahato 16 runs, Sahil Parodkar 12 runs, Tushar Naik 10 runs, Akshad Naik 11 runs.

Goa girls finished at third place after losing to Jammu and Kashmir by 11 runs.

In the semi-final, batting first, Jammu and Kashmir scored 47 all out in 5.4 overs. Purva Gawde 6 for 1, Pratiksha kerkar 15 for 1, Sanchita Shetgaonkar 12 for 2, Tanisha Velip 10 for 2.

In reply, Goa scored 36 for 7 in 6 overs. Tanisha Velip 10, Sanchita Shetgaonkar 8, Purva Gawde 6, Pratiksha Kerkar 6.

Altogether, 29 boys and 24 girls teams participated in the championship which was organised by the Tennis Ball Cricket Association, Haryana, in collaboration with the Tennis Ball Cricket Federation of India and was recognised by Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India and The Sports Authority of India. The teams will return to Goa on Tuesday, by train.
