Good start for Ultracon Madgaon Royals, Desserts N’ More Avengers

ARLEM: Ultracon Madgaon Royals defeated Mapusa Dream Crushers by 3 wickets on the opening day of 7th Sarsangan Super Series Cricket 2024-25 played at Arlem cricket ground, recently.

In the second match, Desserts N More Avengers got the better of SinQ Rangers by 12 runs via VJD Method.

Winning the toss, Madgaon Royals, hoping to make use of a slightly damp wicket, put Mapusa Dream Crushers into bat, in a 17 over-a-side match. However, Durgesh Prabhugaonkar feasted on the early lives offered, blasting 37 in just 15 deliveries with 2x4s and 3x6s and put on 44 in 27 balls with his partner Pankaj Naik, who made 10.

The young 14-year-old Adeep Prabhu Miskin, coming in at No. 3 didn’t let the Royals take a breather as he amassed 40 (35 balls, 3x4s, 2x6s) and with good support from Paarth Kossambe (21, 16 balls, 1x4s, 1x6s), Anish Mahambrey 14 No. and Mahesh Churi 11 No. helped the Dream Crushers post 149/4 in their allotted 17 overs. Siddesh Desai, Shaunit Sawardekar and Sandesh Bambolkar picked a wicket each.

In reply, the Royals got off to a disastrous start losing Mahendra Audi before he could trouble the scorers. However the skipper Damodar Pai Patnekar (39 no, 20 balls, 3x4s, 2x6s) and Saaiel Kossambe (32, 27 balls, 3x4s, 1x6s) steadied the ship stitching an important 54-run partnership in 35 balls.

With Nikit Naik Dalal also not disturbing the scorers, the middle order of Megh Netravalkar (29, 18 balls, 1x4s, 2x6s), Prasheel Kamat (11 runs) and Siddesh Desai (19 runs) took the Royals on the brink of victory.

Needing 6 runs in 4 balls, team owner Ashesh Pai Dukle took his side home remaining not out on 7 with a ball to spare, to help the Royals reach 150/7 in 16.5 overs. Sarvesh Kamat, Kritin Bhangui, Mahesh Churi and Keshav Bhat picked a wicket apiece.

In the second match, electing to bat first, SinQ Rangers were rocked by DnM Avengers Sankalp Bhat with his raw pace as he skittled Nilay Naik Dalal (13 runs), Sachin Kenkre (0) and Sairaj Dhond (14 runs) in a 2 over magical spell picking 3-12.

With the Avengers giving some rest to their premier bowler, the Rangers captain Sahil Adwalpalkar 33 (36 balls, 3x4s) along with the young Smit Dalvi 28 (29 balls, 1x4s) stitched an important 62-run partnership in 58 balls to help the Rangers reach 90-4 in the 14th over.

With Sanat Mhapne falling for just 5 runs, it was left to Gaurav Gaitonde 16 (12 balls, 1x4s, 1x6s) and the young Goa hopeful Samprabh Phaldesai 26 no (13 balls, 3x4s, 1x6s) to help the SinQ Rangers post a healthy 143/7 in 20 overs.

Sankalp Bhat 3-12, Vaibhav Kadkade 2-18, Siddhesh Prabhu Alvenkar 1-23 and Aditya Dalal 1-34 were the successful bowlers for the Desserts n More Avengers.

In reply, the Avengers, having lost both their openers, Sachin Bhandare (11 runs) and Sanat Prabhudesai (1 run), cheaply were rescued by Aditya Dalal 20 (11 balls, 3x4s) and Sarin Pai Kane (36 runs, 31 balls, 3x4s). A flurry of wickets which helped the Rangers to sneak back in the match, was duly thwarted by the batting display of Vaibhav Kadkade (13 runs), Akhil Nadkarni 19 runs) and captain Siddhesh Prabhu Alvenkar (14 No.) under fading light.

With bad light forcing the umpires to stop the match, Desserts n More Avengers which made 132/6 emerged victorious on VJD method by 12 runs as the revised target after 17 overs was 120 runs. Samprabh Phaldesai 2-11, Sairaj Dhond 1-13, Sanat Mhapne 1-25 and Gaurav Gaitonde 1-25 were the successful bowlers.
