Harrison XI emerge champions in AVCC Velim football tourney

RAIA: Harrison XI, Cuncolim, moved past Pedda Boys, Ambelim, 4-2, to emerge champions in the 1st edition of AVCC Open Invitational 9-a-side football tournament organised by FAVV in memory of Fr Druston Correia, Macduf Monteiro and Fr Nevil Gracias, at Velim ground, recently.

Both teams started the match on a fast pace, Bashlan Martin’s of Harrison XI power-packed shot missed the target by whiskers in the 10th minute, while Jovel D’Silva of Pedda Boys had the same fate in the 12th minute. Soon Ansh Patil’s attempt with a downward header was cleared by Floyd Furtado of Pedda Boys in the 37th minute.

At full time, the score was goalless draw. In the resultant tie-breaker, Harrison XI netted through Rohan Gauncar, Ansh Patil, Hagen Diniz and Vayne Peres, while for Pedda Boys Lester Fernandes, Crosly Luis and Crosly Luis could convert.

Fr Santo Antonio Pereira, parish priest of St Xavier Church, Velim, gave away the prizes to the winners and runners-up in the presence of Benjamin Silva, president of Ambelim SC; Pradeep Chari Mangor of Lokmanya Co-operative Credit Society, Menini Fernandes, proprietor Grace Event; Tony Fernandes, former Superintendent of Police other dignitaries and club officials. Earlier, Lorry Colaco welecomed, while Demin D’Cruz proposed a vote of thanks.
