MAPUSA: Sporting Clube de Goa scored a goal in each session of play to register a convincing 2-0 win over Cortalim Villagers Social Welfare Sports Club, in the Goa Professional League match played at Duler Stadium, here, on Wednesday.

Cortalim Villagers coach Jude Barreto came with just two changes in his starting XI, while Sporting Clube de Goa’s Coach Armando Colaco brought eight changes after their last GPL match.

Sporting Clube and Cortalim Villagers have six points each after Sporting Clube playing two matches, while Cortalim Villagers playing three. For the winners, Joel Colaco (8th minute) and Joyson Gauncar (67th minute) scored.

Flaming Oranje started earnestly and forged ahead in the 8th minute where medio Ivon Costa sent a perfect acute angle pass to unmarked Joel Colaco just outside the 6-yard box, who brilliantly connected the ball to the far corner of the goal 1-0.

Flaming Oranje almost netted their second goal but U-21 Francisco Fernandes collected a pass from his skipper Dattaraj Gaonkar and after covering some few steps drilled a hot blooded shot which was blocked by Cortalim Villagers' Goalkeeper Abhijeet Subba in one to one situation.

Cortalim Villagers did have their chances but the last line of Sporting Clube defence curbed their attacks time and again.

In the 29th minute, Ronil Azavedo brilliantly latched a left-footer from the edge of the box which to his team’s dismay saw the ball hit the top corner of the goal frame and come out.

On crossing ends, play was mostly restricted to midfield, with Cortalim Villagers did try to go in search of the equaliser, while at the other end Sporting Clube’s did likewise.

Finally, in the 67th minute, Sporting Clube’s substitute Joyner Lourenco caught the rival goalkeeper on the wrong foot as he drilled a right footer from the edge of the box which curled into the far corner of the goal, 2-0.
