MAPUSA: Vasco Sports Club registered a comfortable 2-0 win over Panjim Footballers SC in the Goa Professional League match played at Duler Stadium, here, on Monday.
Vasco SC colts struck a goal in each session of play through Lengunhao Koch (29th minute) and Khanngam Horam (57th minute).
Vasco SC after their humiliating defeat to Dempo SC in their last league match started earnestly and should have scored early in the match.
Khanngam Horam’s header was collected by Panjim Footballers custodian Bhaskar Jalmi, while a rasping 30-yard strike by medio Manglieboi Neihsial came off the horizontal bar.
At the other end, Panjim Footballers’ Ajay Raj twice failed to shoot inside the goal frame. In the 29th minute, Vasco SC forged ahead where a corner by Kenneth Pereira saw defender Lengunhao Koch score from a goalmouth melee 1-0.
In the very next minute, Panjim Footballers should have equalised but Satish Kankonkar shot out in front of an open goal.
Four minutes later, this time, striker Richie Vaz saw his tap at the goal off a cross from Ajay being brilliantly saved by Vasco SC’s custodian Ngamsanglena Haokip.
In the 41st minute, Vasco SC should have doubled their lead but Khanngam Horam, who had beaten the offside trap and onrushing goalkeeper failed to score.
On crossing ends, in the 57th minute, Vasco SC doubled their lead where this time Khanngam beat the offside trap off a long floater by defender Laununsiamma and scored 2-0.
Panjim Footballers could have reduced their margin in the 69th minute but Richie Vaz’s strike from inside the 18-yard box hit the defender for a corner.
