Mahila and Nutan HS clinch Salcete Taluka School’s Team Championship

PANJIM: Mahila and Nutan High School emerged champions in the Salcete Taluka School’s Team Chess Championship organised by Seva Samiti’s Adarsh V V High School at its premises, recently.

Presentation Convent and Fatima Convent finished as the runners-up and second runners-up, respectively.

A total of 17 teams from schools across Salcete Taluka participated. In the final standings, Presentation Convent and Fatima Convent were tied on match points, but Presentation Convent secured the second rank due to higher game points scored.

The tournament was organised under the guidance of PE teacher Rajandra Naik, tournament director. The prize distribution ceremony was graced by Ashesh Keni, secretary of the Goa Chess Association (GCA), as the chief guest, alongside Ashwini Nayak, chairman of Seva Samiti, IA Sanjay Kavlekar, chief arbiter and Damodar Zambaulikar (vice-president STCA).

SNA Tanishq Kavlekar served as the deputy chief arbiter and SNA Pretty Mendes officiated as the arbiter for the tournament. Top three winners were awarded with the school trophy and individual trophies for the players.
