MAPUSA: Panjim Footballers SC fought gallantly to hold 10 men Guardian Angel SC to a 2-2 draw in the Goa Professional League match played at Duler Stadium, here, on Saturday.

Guardian Angel SC went into the breather with two-goal cushion being scored by Peter Carvalho and Joywin Costa, while Shaviz Phathan and Satish Kankonkar scored for Panjim Footballers.

In the very 10th minute, a curling corner by James Fernandes was smartly headed by stopper back Peter Carvalho into the nets to put Guardian Angel SC’s ahead, 1-0.

Panjim Footballers had numerous goal scoring opportunities but Shaviz Phathan saw two of his back to back strikes from inside the 18-yard box being saved by Guardian Angel SC’s goalkeeper Oswin Rodrigues.

Minutes later, Shaviz dribbled past a host of defenders and passed the ball to Johann Mesquita whose shot was blocked by Peter Carvalho for corner.

At the other end, this time Guardian Angel SC’s Clifton Rebello danced past the rival defenders and placed the ball on platter to unmarked Joywin Costa who coolly tapped the ball into the goal, 2-0.

In the 35th minute, Guardian Angel SC’s custodian Oswin and Panjim Footballers striker Shaviz Phathan collided. Referee Sachin Padloskar cautioned Shaviz with a yellow card. But Oswin Rodrigues pushed Shaviz to the ground prompting referee Sachin to flash direct red card caution to Oswin.

Another glorious chance went abegging for Panjim Footballers with striker Shaviz had only Guardian Angel SC’s custodian at his mercy but saw the latter blast the ball out.

In the stoppage time, Guardian Angel SC’s defender Livan Clement moved upfront on the left flank almost from the center and entering the 18-yard box sent a perfect cross to unmarked Fedrich Fernandes whose strike was blocked by Panjim Footballers goalkeeper Vipin Sharma.

On crossing ends, Guardian Angel SC substitute Cyril Dias’ hot-blooded shot was blocked for a corner by Panjim Footballers custodian.

In the 69th minute, Panjim Footballers’ Shaviz Phathan who had missed numerous goal scoring opportunities finally guided the ball into the goal off a cross from Richie Vaz, 2-1.

Pepped up by the goal, Panjim Footballers came with repeated raids on the rival citadel and finally equalised in the 92nd minute with Satish Kankonkar slamming the ball into the goal off Maresto Fernandes cross, 2-2.

A second for the final hooter and Shaviz Phatan shot out from close to stop Panjim Footballers from their first win.
