RAIA: Santa Cruz Society of Poitomado, Cuncolim, outplayed United Club of Verna 2-1 to qualify for the quarter-finals of 32nd Curtorim Panchayat Cup organised by Curtorim Gymkhana, at St Alex Church ground, Curtorim, on Tuesday.
Santa Cruz Society started the first half on an attacking note as Shankar’s beautiful left footed curler hit the crossbar and went out of play.
Santa Cruz Society then opened their account in the 23rd minute of the match as Viraj Velip sent in a long ranger shot which gave no chance to the United Club of Verna goalkeeper.
Santa Cruz Society were leading 1-0 at half time.
Moving into the second half, United Club of Verna tried hard for the equaliser and finally found it in the 37th minute of play as Maclito D’Costa fired a long shoot which gave the Santa Cruz Society keeper no chance to affect a save. In the final minutes of the match, it was Santa Cruz Society’s Viraj again, who sent in a long ranger shot which buckled the right top corner of the net giving the United Club of Verna keeper no chance.
