MAPUSA: Sesa Football Academy (Sesa FA) kicked off the GFA-Vedanta Women’s League with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Calangute Association, at the Sesa Football Academy ground, Sirsiam, on Friday.
The match started with an early breakthrough for Sesa FA as captain Sushmita Jadhav fired a stunning left-footed strike from outside the penalty area in the very 7th minute, giving her team a 1-0 lead. Sushmita’s brilliance continued as she delivered a perfectly timed through ball in the 20th minute, which Pearl Fernandes converted with a sublime top-corner finish, doubling Sesa FA’s advantage.
Calangute Association responded just before halftime, narrowing the deficit to 2-1 through a well-taken goal by Stessi Cardozo.
The second half saw both teams battle fiercely, but neither managed to add to the scoreline, leaving Sesa FA to celebrate a well-earned victory in the league opener.
