RAIA: United Club Verna defeated Varca Sports Club, 4-3, and moved into the quarterfinals of the Bruno Leitao Memorial Cup 2024, organised by Union of Chinchinim Villagers and played on Chinchinim Church ground, on Tuesday.
Antush Moniz opened the account for United Club Verna in the very first minute of the match with a neat placement in the goal. Sheldon Pereira increased the lead for Verna in the 4th minute to make it 2-0, in the 25th minute.
Clatyon Luis reduced the margin for Varca but in the 29th minute Clifton Rebello scored the 3rd goal for Verna to make it 3-1 at half time.
In the second half, Clayton scored his brace to make it 3-2 in the 9th minute. Soon in the 15th minute Sheldon Pereira scored his second goal for Verna in the 15th minute to make it 4-2 for Verna.
Varca tried hard to equalise but could not score, in the closing minutes of the match substitute Tennison Rosa reduced the margin for Varca Sports Club.
Earlier Chinchinim Sarpanch Valentino Barretto inaugurated the tournament and later gave away the player of the match to Sheldon Pereira of United Club of Verna.
