Bardez : Widespread outrage has erupted following a shocking incident at Camurlim Primary School, where a teacher brutally assaulted a 4th-class , 9 yr student with steel rule iron allegedly for tearing pages from a textbook. The student sustained serious injuries to his hand and back, prompting his parents to file a police complaint against two teachers at the Colvale Police Station.
The incident occurred when the student, in a moment of childish mischief, tore two pages from his textbook. In response, the teacher, in a fit of rage, used an steel rule to beat the child on his hand, elbow, and back. The attack was so severe that the child cried out in pain, pleading for the beating to stop. However, the teacher showed no mercy and continued the assault.
The assault took place in front of the victim's brother, who is also a student at the same school. Adding to the horror, another teacher present at the scene allegedly threatened the brother, warning him not to reveal what had happened at home, or he too would face similar consequences
The victim’s father, a rickshaw driver, was initially informed by the teacher at 10:30 AM that his son had been "disciplined" for being too playful in class. The teacher later contacted the father again at 1:30 PM asking him to downplay the incident if questioned, further aggravating the situation. The father, upon seeing his son's injuries later that evening, broke down in tears and decided to take legal action.
The incident has sparked widespread anger within the local community. The school’s headmistress visited the victim’s home, urging the family not to escalate the matter, promising action against the teacher. However, this has done little to quell the outrage, with local villagers threatening to launch a strong agitation if the teacher is not immediately suspended.
