Goa Shipyard workers demand higher bonus

VASCO: The members of Goa Shipyard Kamdar Ekvott (GSKE) recently passed a resolution demanding annual bonus as well as ex-gratia amount to the tune of 20% of basic and dearness allowance in view of the excellent financial performance of Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL). 
A host of other worker-related issues, besides the election of the president and other office bearers of GSKE, were also taken up during the annual general body meeting of GSL workers association.
According to the information, during the annual general body the workers elected Subhash Naik Jorge as the president of GSKE. He took charge of the union when the GSKE was preparing for the wage negotiations over the charter of demands which is due from January 2017. 
The charter of demands has already been submitted in December 2016. 
In another resolution GSL management was congratulated for being awarded the Raksha Mantri Award for Best performing Shipyard for the year 2015-16 and the SCOPE Award for Excellence (FY 14-15) turnaround. 
They further demanded that the GSL management must acknowledge the contribution of GSL workmen and reward them with suitable mementoes. Members also demanded that the GSL management should stop all the unfair labour practices attempted by GSL and to also pay the overtime wages as per the Factories Act 1948.
Other office-bearers elected are Cyril A Fernandes, Namdev Vengurlekar and Luis Vaz as VP, Ignatius Pereira as General Secretary, Arjun Ansurkar and Shankar Shet as Assistant Secretaries and Vithal Salgaonkar as Treasurer.
