The Exposition of Saint Francis Xavier’s relics is set to attract millions to Old Goa from November 21, 2024, to January 5, 2025, and the exhibition titled ‘Footprints of Hope’ will serve as a distinctive cultural enhancement during this period. This art exhibition is anticipated to draw pilgrims, tourists, and art aficionados, offering a contemplative environment amidst the lively Exposition. The venue for this year’s exhibition, the recently restored Convent of St. John of God, elegantly combines seventeenth-century architecture with contemporary artworks that resonate with modern audiences.
For many visitors, the exhibition represents more than mere visual art; it embodies a collective cultural memory that sustains Goa’s heritage. Curator Fr. Délio Mendonça emphasized the significant collaborative effort that has gone into ‘Footprints of Hope’. By highlighting Goa’s rich artistic talent, the exhibition reflects the values promoted by Saint Francis Xavier—compassion, unity, and service. For the people of Goa, Xavier’s legacy is deeply woven into the region’s history, and this exhibition stands as both a tribute to and a preservation of that legacy.
The art exhibition accompanying the decennial exposition of St. Francis Xavier’s relics in Goa will offer Goans and pilgrims worldwide a unique chance to reconnect with their faith, inviting a deep and transformative experience. I am sure this encounter through the paintings will lead to an experience that will inspire a renewal of conviction and strengthen consciences amid today’s challenges, drawing everyone closer to a life of compassion and integrity, anchored in St Francis Xavier’s legacy
