The acquisition of knowledge and the urge to flaunt it is a very human trait. Sometimes it is to show superiority over others, and there are times when it is used to win prizes. The Goa Heritage Action Group annually conducts an All Goa Heritage Quiz. This year the Quiz for students will be held on November 23, 2024. However, the all Goa Quiz for the general public will be conducted on October 5, 2024. The quiz is open to everyone. Students, parents and teachers can participate in this quiz.
The students, parents and teachers can come as guests to view the quiz as it will be a learning process for them, for the quiz they will be participating in.
The Goa Heritage Action Group will hold the second edition of the Goa Heritage Quiz at 2.30 pm in Maquinez Palace, Panjim. The quiz is open to all, in teams of two. And even if you don’t want to participate, come by to witness what should be a keen contest, and to learn about Goa’s heritage. The quiz last year generated good response from the public. There were 87 teams with two members each with 44 teams coming from schools. According to Alinto Coelho the level of general knowledge is very good though no school qualified for the finals. This was the reason he said for the separate quiz contest for the schools scheduled in November.
The reason for starting the quiz was to create awareness on heritage and the various aspects like kavi art, restoration of old structures. Alinto said, “We had received a good response from the general public as well as the schools. The knowledge among the general public is pretty good though none of the schools reached the finals.. The kids may not know about sluice gates because they have not travelled. For that matter not many Goans know about kavi art. This quiz is certainly helping in increasing awareness”.
The questions that are featured in the quiz centre around heritage, history, Goan musicians, Konkani movies, protected monuments, natural heritage, sluice gates, khazans and historical Personalities. That is quite a range of subjects without a doubt. There is a history of quizzes in Goa with subjects as varied as history quizzes, science quizzes, and electoral quizzes to name just a few.
