Biden’s new move puts Kamala Harris in uncharted territory

Published on

Joe Biden has pulled himself out of the US presidential race. Last week, he repeatedly said he would remain the Democratic Party’s nominee. However, succumbing to the ever-increasing pressure, Biden has decided to withdraw from the US presidential election and endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris for the presidency. Biden’s decision, which has made the US elections more interesting, will definitely have an impact on the campaign of Vice President Kamala Harris and Republican candidate Donald Trump.

Nominating Kamala Harris for president is a risk that many Democrats are willing to take. Biden’s support has strengthened Kamala’s chances of becoming a presidential candidate. Biden said it was his best decision to pick Kamala for the vice presidency four years ago. Kamala replied that she was honoured by Biden's support and would do everything to win the nomination. A majority of Democrats are likely to follow Biden's lead in supporting Kamala. The Democrats’ convention will be held in a month an in such a situation, the Democrats want to avoid any kind of uncertainty. There are political and practical reasons for doing this as Kamala Harris is on the second constitutional post after Biden. Backing the first black woman to win the presidential ticket could be a losing proposition for the Democratic Party. Kamala Harris is expected to use $100 million, or about Rs 836 crore, for her election campaign.

But for Kamala this election is not as easy as it seems. There are many potential dangers in their path. For example, public opinion polls show that Kamala Harris’s performance against Donald Trump is as poor as Biden’s. Another thing is that Kamala Harris’ tenure as Vice President has been full of problems. After taking over the administration, Kamala Harris was tasked with dealing with the growing crisis of illegal immigrants from Mexico. This is a big challenge. Kamala also faced criticism in this case due to several steps and decisions. Kamala was also a key figure in the White House administration on abortion rights and this was a point that Kamala has handled more effectively. But the image created at the beginning does not fade away so quickly.

Kamala Harris has already tried to run for the presidency of the United States. But in 2020, she failed miserably in this attempt. Kamala made rapid strides but was stunned in many interviews, lack of vision and poor campaigning mechanisms lead her defeat, which could make it risky for the Democrats to pick Kamala. But the thing is, now the Democrats have no safe option left. Over the past 50 years, political conferences have turned into somewhat boring conventions. Every minute of this conference is created by keeping TV in mind. These conferences have become multi-day advertisements for presidential candidacies. The same was true of the Republican Party convention last week. Donald Trump accepted the nomination and gave a long speech, but the mood of the conference did not change. Next month, the Democrats’ convention in Chicago is expected to be different. All the preparations that Biden’s campaign team was preparing for this conference are now useless an even if the rest of the Democrats support Kamala as much as Biden, planning, controlling and speaking at the conference is a difficult task.

This year’s Republican convention was carefully organized. Under this, the party’s most popular agenda was promoted and criticism focused on just one person - President Joe Biden. But now the man the Republican Party was targeting is no longer in the race. With Biden out of the race, the Republican Party’s election campaign will also be disrupted. The Republican Party spent the past week holding events that highlighted the Democrats’ weaknesses. The campaign team tried to make a show of strength with Trump’s strong entry. In any case, with the Democratic nominee now younger than Biden, the Republican Party’s weak-versus-strong strategy against Kamala Harris will not work. They also won't be able to work against the young governor, who was said to be a contender to take over from Biden. If Kamala Harris wins the nomination, the Republican Party will try to talk about the failures of her vice presidential tenure. For months, Kamala Harris was called the ‘Border Czar’. It is coined because of the failure in handling the border work. Regardless of the candidate, the Republican Party will continue to attack Biden’s age-related weaknesses. With the US presidential election just months away, Trump will charge that the country is in danger.
